Friedrich Kellner was a court clerk, judicial secretary, then justice secretary and officer of justice and manager of a small district court in Germany.
As a member of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), Friedrich Kellner was an opponent of National Socialism, but not a persecutee of the regime and therefore reported from the everyday life of a normal, petty-bourgeois family in a small town in the Hessian province.

The diaries of Friedrich Kellner were only published in 2011.
His records show impressively that it did not begin with the concentration camps and gas chambers, but with the “us against them”, that first exclusion, then discrimination and racism prepared the ground. They show us how much ordinary citizens could know about the crimes of the Nazi regime, if they wanted to know.

The working group “Justice and National Socialism” from the University of Applied Sciences for the Administration of Justice in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, has prepared the extensive text material from the diaries for an impressive exhibition.
Kellner’s diaries have been transformed into virtual themed rooms with numerous images, texts, audio and video, which can be visited with an interactive 360° viewer.
